Today, we, at AfroAmerica Network, have decided to endorse Bernie Sanders for President of the United States. We believe that Bernie Sanders, more than any other candidate has started a transformational movement. The "political revolution" to pull America from the grip of a few to the benefits of the many will reaffirm the greatness of America, continue the road started by President Barack Obama and solidify a nation for the people and by the people, not one controlled by special interests and big money; a Nation when the leaders speak for and represent the people, not the wealthy or special groups. We believe that it is only in such a nation that African
Americans, Blacks, Latinos, and other minorities will be heard and their issues, concerns, aspirations will be taken into account while crafting a new vision, effective policies, and a transformational national agenda for America.
In fact, the current American political environment where there is extraordinary concentration of income, wealth, and political power at the very top of the top is a danger, not only to American democracy and economy, but most importantly to the American middle class, and especially to the White middle class or poor, African Americans, Latinos and other minorities.
AfroAmerica Network had the choice between Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, for the Democratic Primaries. But at the end, as we looked at the records, the choice became even clearer. The policies enacted by Presindet Clinton and in which Hillary Clinton played a key role, especially the Personal Responsibility and Work Opportunity Act of 1996 and the The Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, have destroyed minority communities and increased incarceration and overcrowding of prisons, mostly with males from African Americans and Latinos communities and other people of color.
In Foreign policies, President Bill Clinton and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton have encouraged dictatorships around the World, especially in Africa. President Bill Clinton and his Clinton Global Initiative have supported or advised African dictators, including General Paul Kagame of Rwanda and Yoweri Museveni of Uganda. Despite being responsible for at least 6 million deaths in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and crimes that the United Nations has concluded to be "acts of genocide", General Paul Kagame has consistently enjoyed the support of President Bill Clinton and the United States Government, when Hillary Clinton was Secretary of State. African dictators, including General Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Yoweri Museveni of Uganda, Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe, Sassou Nguesso of Republic of Congo, Paul Biya of Cameroon and Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo of Equatorial Guinea have crowned themselves presidents for life in their countries. Others, such as Pierre Nkurunziza of Burundi and Joseph Kabila of Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) have changed or plan to change the constitutions of their countries to remain in power. Given that President Clinton has played a major role in helping these dictators to ascend to or remain in power, that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did not do much to sanction these dictators, and that Clinton Global Initiative advised or supported some of these dictators, AfroAmerica Network believes that President Hillary Clinton would not be the right person to address this scourge of repression, dictatorship, and corruption in Africa.
AfroAmerica Network believes that, with President Bernie Sanders, African dictators will have tough time. The 6 miliions of people killed by General Paul Kagame would not go unpunished, dictators who repress their people will face consequences and the political revolution that would start in America will spread around the World.
AfroAmerica Network believes that Bernie Sanders' presidency would lead a transformational movement to propel America into a new era, make America and its people greater than before and reaffirm American leadership in economy and in democratical change around the World.
AfroAmerica Network endorses Bernie Sanders because he is the right person America and the World needs now.
