On Saturday July 13, 2024, Czech Barbora Krejčíková, 28, won Wimbledon women final, defeating Italian Jasmine Paolini, 28, in a highly competitive game. With the win, Czech Barbora Krejčíková has a second slam title and the first Wimbledon title. The win comes three years after her Roland Garros title in 2021.
Czech Barbora Krejčíková, now ranked 31, beat Jasmine Paolini, ranked 7, 6-2 2-6 6-4.
The win was in play as she had suffered injury durring the season and saw her world rankings drop significantly to 31. Since the 2024 Australian Open Barbora Krejčíková has only won just two singles matches. Her sudden illnesses and injuries appeared to put a break on the next steps. Hence, the expectations of a high performance at Wimbledon were low.
But, on the road to the Wimbledon Finals, Barbora Krejčíková managed to outmaneuver and outperform Danielle Collins, ranked 11, in round 16, Jelena Ostapenko ranked 13, in quarter finals, and Elena Rybakina ranked 4, in semi-finals.

Before the loss in the finals, Jasmine Paolini had an unprecedented performance in Wimbledon. She had never won a match at Wimbledon, but now has made history as the first Italian woman to ever reach the Wimbledon final. She managed to outmaneuver and outperform Madison Keys ranked 12, in round 16, Emma Navarro ranked 19, in quarter finals, and Donna Vekič in semi-finals.
She reached the Wimbledon Finals just a month after losing the French Open final. During the French Open finals, Jasmine Paolini lost to world number 1 Iga Świątek in straight sets. This time, she was determined not to lose all the sets, winning the second, 6-2.
The last and only game between Barbora Krejčíková and Jasmine Paolini was in the first round of the 2018 Australian Open qualifying tournament. Then, Barbora Krejčíková won the game but did not reach further.
Hence, the win today has again reaffirmed the strength of Barbora Krejčíková while preparing the next steps ahead for Jasmine Paolini.
