FOREIGN POLICY UNVEILS THE WORST WORLD LEADERS
Foreign Policy Magazine, the prestigious bimonthly American political magazine, has published in its July/August 2010 edition a list of the worst of the worst world leaders. It is a dictator “who is who”, a compilation of the 23 worst evil leaders that the magazine calls “bad dude dictators and general coconut heads.” They are from all continents. Twenty three in all. Africa has the lion share of 13 , or 3/5. From Africa we have the usual assassins, wannabe liberators turned exterminators, and self declared medicine men. The ranking by Foreign Policy Magazine, recognized for its academic rigor in areas of global politics and and economics that won it the 2003, 2007, and 2009 National Magazine Award for General Excellence will likely serve as a reference for politicians in Washington and around the World.
This is how african worst of the worst rank, with a short description of their claim to fame:
2. Robert Mugabe of Zimbabwe: A liberation hero turned into a murderous despot
4. Omar Hassan Al-Bashir of Sudan: A megalomaniac zealot.
6. Isaias Afwerki of Eritrea: A crocodile liberator who turned Eitrea into a prison.
9- Meles Zenawi of Ethiopia: Worst than the former Marxist dictator, Mengistu Haile Mariam he overthrew.
11- Muammar Al-Qaddafi of Libya: An eccentric egoist with indecipherably flamboyant speeches and erratic politics.
13- Idriss Deby of Chad: dictator who has drained social spending accounts to turn the capital N’Djamena into own fortress.
14 - Theodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasongo of Equatorial Guinea: a plutocrat who turned masses into destitute hoodlums.
15- Hosni Mubarak of Egypt: A senile and paranoid autocrat.
16- Yahya Jammeh of Gambia: Eccentric military buffoon who claims to be able to heal HIV/AIDS and calls himself “His Excellency Sheik Professor Alhaji Dr. Yahya Abdul-Azziz Junkung Jammeh.
18. Blaise Compaore of Burkina Faso: A tin-pot despot with no vision or agenda.
19- Yoweri Museveni of Uganda: A term limit advocate who turned into the master winner of “coconut elections.”

23- Paul Biya of Cameroon: A suave bandit.
According to Foreign Policy Magazine, one of the new worst of the worsts, Paul Kagame of Rwanda has become a fascist and “practices the same ethnic apartheid he sought to end. His Rwandan Patriotic Front [composed mostly of the minority ethnic Tutsi group] dominates all levers of power: the security forces, the civil service, the judiciary, banks, universities, and state-owned corporations. Those who challenge the president are accused of being a hatemonger and arrested.” The magazine forgot to add “, tortured or killed”.
